"John was one of the most outstanding people I had the pleasure of working with. His knowledge of internet technologies, combined with his business sense, make him one of the rare people in this industry who understand not only how best to do something (technically), but also whether it is worth doing at all."

Stephen McHenry, Chancellor of Site Reliability Engineering, Google

Summary:

John Stanforth has spent the past 14 years building— to borrow the Malcolm Gladwell (BLINK) phrase— "a kind of Internet development ’database’ in his unconscious." He doesn’t pretend to be a great all-around software engineer, but he’s an excellent Internet software developer— a niche discipline spanning software development, network architecture, scalability design, security analysis, systems administration, web scripting, and project management. Since 1995, he has developed high-volume web services on Unix/C++ platforms, and the client lists of the companies he’s worked with represent every major Internet and entertainment brand name, plus thousands of financial institutions worldwide. He approaches web services projects with an intuition developed over time, and lacking that intuition in another area like device drivers or kernel modules, he’d be the first to suggest you instead find someone else as fanatic about those domains as he is about web services.

John also leveraged his technology and business experience to co-found several small technology start-ups, including the JSL venture portfolio (2001), Enabled Paradigm (2000), JTEK Interactive (1995). He currently serves as Technical Director for the Quintivity web services firm and also guides technology strategy at venture firm JSL Dragonfly.

"I can’t say enough about the contributions John made at Search123. Originally hired to enhance our on-line reporting systems, John was quickly given a leadership role after demonstrating competence and vision across the enterprise. John was an invaluable member of the technical team and I could always count on him for innovation and results."
